Industrial refrigeration: the RSIF
Refrigeration installations (cold storage rooms, food production workshops, freezing tunnels, process cooling) are governed by the Safety Regulation for Refrigeration Installations (RSIF), which incorporates its complementary technical instructions (ITC).
Classification by levels
The RSIF classifies installations into level 1 and level 2 according to the refrigerant used, the refrigerant charge and the power of the installation. The required documentation depends on that level: smaller installations can be processed with a technical report, while larger ones require a technical project and site management.
The refrigerant determines the project
The type of refrigerant is decisive both in the classification and in the required safety measures. We work with the most common refrigerants in the sector —fluorinated HFC and HFO, and CO₂ (R-744)— as well as with ammonia (NH₃ / R-717), widely used in industrial refrigeration for its high efficiency and which requires specific safety measures.
What documentation does your installation need?
The level and requirements depend on the refrigerant, the charge and the power of each installation. We classify it under the RSIF and tell you whether it needs a technical report or a project with site management.
Fire safety in industry
Industrial units, workshops and industrial establishments are governed by the Fire Safety Regulation for Industrial Establishments (RSCIEI). This regulation classifies each establishment according to its configuration (types A, B, C, D, E) and its intrinsic risk level (low, medium or high), calculated from the fire load. The required protection measures depend on that classification. We explain it in detail on our fire protection page.
Other industrial installations
